The Benefits of Resveratrol for a Long and Healthy Life

The benefits of resveratrol are becoming better known.

Here is an article about the amazing benefits of resveratol. Resveratrol is a naturally occurring substance found in several plant sources, including grapes.

The amazing benefits of resveratrol

For untold generations the French have benefited from an unusual phenomenon known as the French Paradox. This paradox is the observation that despite eating a rich fatty diet, just like most Americans, they suffer from less heart disease and tend to live longer.

Interestingly enough, modern medicine points to one naturally occurring compound as key to this phenomenon: resveratrol.

Resveratrol is created in plants, most famously the grape, as a natural defense against fungi and other dangers. Additionally, this means that organically produced crops actually contain more resveratrol than non-organic crops.

Harvard resveratrol research

Some of the biggest resveratrol research breakthroughs came out of Harvard during the last decade. Research on mice was performed, where mice given resveratrol were compared to control groups of mice not using resveratrol. The mice on resveratrol lived longer, had fewer health problems, had more endurance and had fewer incidences of obesity related illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.

More benefits of resveratrol were soon revealed.

The benefits of resveratrol for cancer and aging

Further research has suggested that Resveratrol may help our bodies fight cancer, Alzheimer’s, aging itself and many other diseases that we typically associate with growing older.

Research involving Resveratrol and cancer is in its early stages. However, current testing suggests that Resveratrol, either on its own or in conjunction with other drugs, may destroy cancer cells by increasing apoptosis, self destruction, within the cells.

Alzheimer's reservatrol research and more benefits of resveratrol

Alzheimer research has found interesting findings in mice. Mice taking resveratrol show improved memory in older age. In addition, they show less occurrence of plaque on the brain, the cause of symptoms in Alzheimer’s.

Research is suggesting that a person may be able to use resveratrol to stop the degenerative effects of Alzheimer’s from occurring. This means that they could have full blown Alzheimer's, but by taking resveratrol they could potentially slow, or even stop, the loss of brain matter.

The benefits of resveratrol on life span

While resveratrol in any form is a polyphenol and antioxidant, the key to its anti-aging claims lies in its active form trans-resveratrol. Trans-resveratrol is the only antioxidant known to trigger the SIRT1 Longevity Gene. The SIRT1 gene has long been studied after research on calorie restriction (which also activates it) found that it led to better health and a prolonged...
